Euskaltel definitely made the race in the most important Basque race of the year, the Clasica Ciclista San Sebastiàn. And once again, Euskaltel lacks someone to finish it off.
Euskaltel made the pace in the break of 47 riders that took off after a quite boring start. Among them Samuel Sanchez, Haimar, Gorka, Ruben Perez and Alan Perez. When Alejandro Valverde attacked after the Jaizkibel, Samuel got him back and even attacked and he got away together with Valverde, Rebellin, Moncoutié and Bettini. Sadly this attack couldn't continue and 8 other riders joined the group, among them pacemakers for Valverde. Haimar tried to get away in the last kilometres but the sprint couldn't be avoided. Alejandro Valverde won that sprint, Samuel became 7th and Haimar 9th, two seconds down on Valverde.
