San Remo : Cancellara wins thanks to Iñigo

Maybe the title of this article is a bit too optimistic but this is how you can interpret the end of Milan - San Remo. In general Euskaltel put up a good show. There was an early break with Savini, Frischkorn and Belohvosciks but in the peloton Euskaltel had constantly three men in the front. On the Copa Berta Javier Aramendia struggled and had to let go the peloton. On the Cipressa, one of the two decisive hills, the break was caught by world champion Paolo Bettini. Then Egoi Martinez attacks and tries to reach Bettini together with Barredo, Rebellin, Lövkvist and Axelson, but due to some stupid manoeuvres of Rebellin and Barredo Egoi fell and had to give up his hopes for a good classification. At the same time Juan Jose Oroz has to let the peloton go. At 20 km before the finish the same five together with Savoldelli are still in front but Iñigo manages to reach the groupe together with a few others. In sight of the last kilometer Iñigo attacks, but the lacks the real pace and Cancellara reaches him and jumps over him. With his time trial skills he rode a great last kilometer and won Milan - San Remo. So maybe if Landaluze didn't make his jump, Cancellara would have attacked too late and it would have ended in a sprint, that's why I chose the title :) Iñigo became 14th, totally exhausted. Aitor Galdos came in 26th together with other big sprinters and Ruben Perez.
